Gavin joined Lewis and Associates as an articling student in 2019 after completing his Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa the same year. Gavin also holds a BA Hons. from Wilfrid Laurier University and an MA from Western University. In 2020, Gavin was called to the bar in Ontario.
As a first-year student, Gavin interned with a criminal lawyer in Ottawa. In each semester of his second year of law school, Gavin worked as part of the team at the Refugee/Criminal Law Clinic where he performed research for public interest groups who intervene at the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. In between Gavin’s second and third year, he worked at a boutique immigration law firm.
In all three semesters of his third year, Gavin interned at Community Legal Services Ottawa in the Immigration and Refugee Law Division where he assisted with applications for leave and for judicial review, spousal sponsorships, refugee claims, and permanent residence applications.
As a third-year student, Gavin was awarded the Rita Marguerite Houle Prize and the Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP Prize. Both awards were given for highest standing in the Trial Advocacy course.
